MONTHLY CHORES

Spring is finally returning, and we will be seeing more warm days than snowy days.  Here are you March & April Monthly chores:

Now is a great time to overseed, patch, or redo you lawns.  Loosen up the soil if possible and just sow some  grass seed.  Cover with either a good topsoil, penn mulch, or straw.  All available at Copley Feed.

Crabgrass preventer with or without fertilizer can also be applied at this time.  Be sure that if you have, or are planning on putting down grass seed, do not put down the crabgrass preventer in the seeded areas.

If crabgrass isn't a problem in your lawn, then you can just put down some fertilizer and lime on your lawns.  This will help them to green up faster, and get a healthy start.

Those of you wanting to get "Back to Basics" can come to Copley Feed and purchase fresh, bulk garden seeds.  Our staff will be happy to guide you through your gardening experience this year.

Onion sets & seed potatoes are now available.  If you can get into your gardens, or even if you have some small areas in your flowerbeds, you can plant the following items:

Onion sets, cabbage, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, endive, escarolle, lettuce, radishes, peas, spinach, & Swiss chard.

Coming soon will be rhubarb roots, asparagus roots, horseradish roots, onion plants, leek plants, & sweet potato plants.  If you will want any of these items, please call and leave your name and phone number.  They will be a limited supply, and you don't want to be left out of some good eating.

Backyard pond owners:  now is the time to apply barley straw, Aquashade, and or Crystal Blue to control algae without chemicals.

Got trees?  As soon as the temperatures get above 32° for 12 to 24 hours, you will want to spray your trees, shrubs, etc with dormant oil, lime sulpher, or a combo of both.  This is a very important spray because it will kill any overwintering insects that have taken up housekeeping on your trees.

Moles got you down?  We have many different solutions to mole invasions.

Horse lovers, be sure to join us March 19 for our seminar on Equine Digestion by Trent Ardrey with Purina Mills, and Avoiding laminitis by Dr Endia Pembrooke with the Visiting Vet in Bath.  This seminar will also be at Copley Feed at 7 pm.  Please call to register, seating is limited. 330 666 4741
