GARDENING TIPS

No matter how much space you have, you can grow fresh vegetables.  I many times put some veggies in my flowerbeds.  They help to ward off certain insects and they also give a different feel to my flowerbed. Tomatoes, peppers, lettuce etc can also be grown in pots and placed around your patio.   So don't cheat yourself out of fresh veggies because you think you don't have a yard big enough.

If you do have room in your yards to designate a space for a garden, then you need to make sure that it gets 5-6 hours of full sunlight every day.  If you stop into Copley Feed, my staff will be happy to help you lay out your garden for you.

After you get the lay out decided and what you want to plant, then we move on to prepping the soil for planting.  If the area that you want to plant in has never had vegetable grown in it before, then I'd suggest you begin by getting our soil test kit and sending the dirt off for analysis.  This will enable you to have a successful growing experience.

Once you get that soil test report back, bring it into my staff here at Copley Feed and we will help you decipher it.  Then we will get you the proper fertilizer and lime that you will need for success.  Then you go home and turn your soil over, put down the compost, fertilizer, or lime and work that into the area before you plant.  Vegetables require a lot of nutrition to grow and produce well, so the better we prep the area the better your harvest will be.

Now, we move onto the planting portion of your garden.  I have a chart that will help you with this so be sure to ask the staff to get it for you.  Copley Feed has all kinds of heirloom garden seeds in bulk or in packets.  We will be having heirloom plants and regular vegetable plants available by the first week of May (weather permitting).

If you are wanting to do everything organically, be sure to check out our organic page withing our website.  Feel free to call or stop in and talk with us anytime about growing your new gardens.  We all have gardened for many years and have a lot of knowledge that we would be happy to share.

If you plan on canning or freezing your harvest this year, be sure to check out our events page in our website.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
