MONTHLY CHORES

Well, as much as I hate to admit it, summer will soon be ending.  I really hate to see it end, it has been very pleasurable this season.

As your annual plants begin to fade, you will want to pull them out and dispose of them.  This will help you to prep your beds for next season, plus get rid of any diseases that may carry over to next year. Once you have cleared your flowerbeds, I always like to apply a good, heavy coating of fertilizer to them.  This will breakdown over the winter and have your beds ready to go next spring planting.

Areas of the garden that you are done with, plant some rye,  wheat, or hairy vetch in them.  This will make what is called a green manure.  The seed grows, you turn it under next spring and this adds extra nutrients to your soil.  By having this in your plot, it helps to hold the soil during idle time.

Fall is the perfect time to apply your Wilt Stop to your trees and shrubs, especially newer plantings.  Wilt Stop slows evaporation from your plants faster than they can take moisture in from the roots.  This many times will make the difference between a plant surviving the winter or not.

Fall is the best time for reseeding or overseeding your lawns.  Here at Copley Feed we carry the freshest, and proper seeds for our geographical area.  Don't be talked into some fancy types of grass seed mixes, because if they are not meant to grow in our area, you will just be disappointed--and why go to all the work for disappointment.  We also carry the Encap and Penn mulch to cover your newly seeded areas, as well as the old reliable straw.

If by some chance you didn't get your application of lawn fertilizer down last month, you still have plenty of time to do so.  We suggest our Heritage House Premium Lawn Food, or Milorganite.

So, these are just a few helpful hints of jobs that need done.  If you have any questions, our staff is well versed in many areas that will help you.
